Photography Studio

The Photography Area curriculum is designed to provide core courses supplemented by thematic and process orientated courses. The area focus is on photography as a fine art, within a contemporary context. Courses maximize hands on learning and conceptual development through project-based assignments. Students learn about historical and contemporary photography, both Canadian and international, in an environment that encourages the development of sustainable skills, intellectual rigour and passionate commitment to art practice.

Students focusing in photography can acquire technical competence in black and white, and digital media. Students who wish to focus in photography and progress to senior level work at the 3000 and 4000 level must complete the prerequisite 2061 Photo Studio I and a minimum of one other photography course at the 2000 level. However, three courses in 2000-level photography is highly recommended.

The Photography Area studios include:

·        a large smart classroom

·        a 15-station black & white darkroom

·        several one-person darkrooms and film processing rooms

·        a comprehensive digital imaging facility with small and large-format colour printing capacity, flatbed and IMACON scanners

·        a lighting studio

·        mural facilities

·        a print finishing room
